The preferred way to share files/folders between Linux is through NFS.

However, you can also use Samba to share files between Linux and
Windows. To do this, you need to create a user on the Linux box. Then
run in the terminal

sudo smbpasswd -a NEW_USERNAME

Now to share files either put the files into the NEW_USERs home folder
or right-click on the folder you want to share and select Sharing
Options.
