That's cool that you are not satisfied with GUI. Power linux users CLI.
After finishing one book, try to go through
http://www.gnu.org/manual/manual.html
and if you are fan of CLI linux you should visit www.tldp.org on daily
basis.

Shell script is nothing but consecutive commands executed in order
to do complex task. Very simplified definition though :D
When you are ready, you should by now, read http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/,
or
http://www.math.ucdavis.edu/~zjohnson/doc/Adv-Bash-Scr-HOWTO/ OR
http://www.google.com/search?q=bash+scripting+howto&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
:)

If we know how to use google, we would not ask it here :D
We must do that:
Effective search through Google!!!
1. Use http://www.google.com/linux for linux related search.
2. Use http://www.google.com/advanced_search for advance search.
3. Read Advance Search Made Easy at
http://www.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=searchguides.html&ctx=advanced&\
hl=en<http://www.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=searchguides.html&ctx=advanced&hl=en>
4. Read about advance operators at
http://www.google.com/help/operators.html
5. And finally bookmark cheetsheets for time to time review :)
