One liner CLI is ok. But for ffmpeg or mencoder, it is overwhelming. I
still can't remember what option is needed for which converter. Using
such a versatile software in command line is insane.
I partially disagree about responsibility of the Linux experts. I have
converted some people just by showing how easy it is to use Ubuntu.
You know, the motto of Ubuntu is "Linux for Human". They were very
afraid of using linux just because of the CLI. I do agree that in most
cases GUI tutorial would be an essay of 500 words instead of one line
command. But who wants to convert 3gp to avi, is knowledgeable enough
to know what menu should be clicked. And also if you want to give a
tutorial about the options of the ffmpeg or mencoder, I bet you need
to write 5000000 words or more.
So it really depends on the problem, whether you need to run CLI or
GUI. When my friends see me using Mac or Linux, they think that
without Terminal nothing can be done in these OSes. In fact, in Mac
you don't need to open the Terminal in your whole life. But I do live
in the Terminal.
