[ Ubuntu-BD ] Some questions

Hi there! Welcome to Linux :)

I'll try to help you as much I can,

*Q1. *
There can be 3 solutions
*sol 1: *
Alt+F2 to bring up the run dialog box. then use your command without the '&'

so what is this '&' do?
it runs an application in background.
*sol 2:*
Create a shortcut,
Right click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher"
Give a name for the launcher and past/write the command in the 'Command'
text box. optionally you can set an icon for the launcher. Click OK and your
Launcher will be available in the desktop. You can connect by double
clicking it
*sol 3:*
If you want to connect automatically upon login then use the solution,
System>Preference>Session
Click Add, 'Add Startup Program' Dialog box shown, now I hope you'll
understand what to do there :)

Q2:
Believe me You'll be in lot better shape, if you just install it from
Synaptic, Don't worry about Line drop, Electricity as Package manager is
very very reliable with downloads. you can stop and resume anytime. Just go
with it. If there is any problems (ie. Electricity) then just select the
package again and start, it will resume from the last position,

If you want to compile and build you'll have to fight with dependency
problems which surely is not very please thing to do, and at the end
probably you'll have to download more then 65MB to compile it.

Q3:
Well I have not worked with it, but searching gave me texmaker , looks good
to me. available in synaptic ;)
