[ Ubuntu-BD ] Installing ubuntu in THP

congratulation that you are trying to get you hand dirty with ubuntu :D -
let me answer you one by one

1. what did you mean by windows directory? in whichever case, after
installing ubuntu you will find your drives inside the "compuetr" and in the
"places menu" - you can access your other drives and files from there.

2. from synaptic package manager install apache, php5, php5-cli and
mysql-server-5.0 and mysql client 5.0. if you have installed ubunutu from a
dvd, you dont need to download anything else. synaptic package manager will
find all the necessary files from the dvd and install them for ya. for
incase you have installed from cd, you must have live internet connection
while installimg AMP

you can also try using xampp - a really nice package.

3. almost every common packages for your everyday needs are in the dvd, so
you can try - but there is no guranty that you will find everything in the
dvd for your need

4. nope - howeever you can run old versions of dreamweaver (like MX) via
wine. for that please install WINE package first and then click on
dreameweaver setup icon. Do you have a valid and licensed dreamweaver ;) ???
if not, dont go for the cracked software. I would suggest you to try amaya
or quanta. they are not fully featured like dreamweaver, but it makes u feel
good - as they are free :)

5. gFTP is my favorite - it supports both FTP and SFTP. you can also try
FileZilla - its favorite to many people, but personally i dont like it very
much.

6. I am not sure about this question - if you meant "how to share files from
ur nix machine with other windows machines" - simple, install samba and you
can do it. you will find detaild "how tos" on using samba

hope you will be sticking with linux (or *licensed* windows/mac) :D
