I never had the mentioned problems with my Hardy installation. may be I'm
just lucky

Every one remember to Keep your distro up-to-date and you should not have
any problems. Also Google is your friend. learn to use it.

You can also install fonts in your home folder ....

create a directory name .fonts in your home folder, and paste them in that
folder.... can't get easier then this :p

Command>>
# mkdir ~/.fonts


I'm not sure what is wrong with the keyboard scheme (or layout?), add the
Keyboard Indicator applet in the Panel. You just need to click to change the
keyboard layout (if you have multiple keyboard layout)
