Public bug reported:

Need hplip - 3.15.2-0ubuntu3 backported as it includes a upstream fix to
disable JPEG compression.  The hplip in Trusty incorrectly disables the
option to choose compression "None" for communication between scanner
and computer.  This introduces heavy jpeg artifacts which are
undesirable.  In Xsane main window you can reproduce the bug by
navigating the window-advanced_options menu and see that only "JPEG" is
available as compression, while "None" is not available.  See
