Same problem here. First I did an upgrade from jaunty to karmic with
karmic release candidate. After reboot there was a blank screen.
Thereafter, I booted with the recovery option, which drops me into
busybox. Then I did a fresh install ... same problem. And the official
release live-cd does not recognize my partitions, too.
My system has 3 sata disks and a total number of 6 partitions. One of
them (dev/sdc1) is listed by "cat /proc/partitions", which is a ntfs-
partition. The command "ls /dev/sd*" lists /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc
and /dev/sdc1.
