Thanks Alex. The link in
your email to yahoo messenger does not work.
It seems that
hundreds of emails and bug reports can not correct
yahoo messenger
while using Ubuntu. In a nutshell, yahoo messenger
simply does not
work to its full capacity with Ubuntu. That's Period!
If you go
onto yahoo messenger with a Windows machine one is amazed
at all
the enabled features...like being able to receive a file to
getting
detailed user information. All of which do not work using
yahoo messenger
with Ubuntu.
I use pidgin and am able to
communicate using yahoo messenger...BUT...
all features are not
available at this time. Frankly the subtle problems are too numerous
to mention and probably too numerous to fix.
So I suggest users to
just get it working as best you can and hope that Karmic Koala with
Empathy messenger service will work in total.

I had a look on Yahoo's blogs - and found this article -
http://www.ymessengerblog.com/blog/2009/09/18/versions-6-7-5-will-end-
on-september-30/

It looks as though Pidgin has to emulate Yahoo 9 or later in order to be
let in.
