Dear Montel,
Thanks for your notes regarding Pidgin connectivity to Yahoo from the
Launchpad site.
You'll have to forgive me, not only am I new to Linux, but I also
don't know the protocol for the Launchpad site, or whether it is okay
to contact a member directly or instead post to the site. Perhaps you
can advise about that as well.
Anyway, I have two messages from you as follows:
1.

Yes, I did know that Easy Peasy 1.1. is an Ubuntu 8.10 based distro.
My Asus 901 came with Xandros which I really didn't like, and I found
their repositories most unreliable. The two distros that appeared
tailored to the EEE PCs which I test drove via USB and did like were
Easy Peasy and Cruncheee. Both of course are not using the new Ubunbu
9.04. I guess I had assumed that I needed to look for a distro which
was optimized for the EEE. Cruncheee comes with few programs
installed (but an attractive interface). One can always add what you
would really use later, I suppose. Easy Peasy is more fully fleshed
out, but then it does have many things I will never use (games, for
example). Easy Peasy warns against upgrading to 9.04. I don't know
what Crunch Bang says about the issue.
Further confusing to me is that everyone seems to have a later version
of Pidgin than is available to me. Mine is 2.5.2, but the Updater
shows it as the highest available to me on this Distro. A Pidgin
Security patch was just released, and it was after that that I was no
longer able to connect, so I'm not sure where my issue fits into the
larger Yahoo server picture.
From your second note, I gather that you are happy with Xubuntu 9.04,
and that everything seems to work as it is supposed to on an EEE. I
have to admit that I hadn't researched that yet. I'll start to do
that right now. (I have to get my "Linux" friend to help with
installations and all. I am competent of Windows and Macs which I
still own and use, but totally new to Linux.)
