I have successfull build from Intrepid to Hardy by
sudo apt-get build-dep -t intrepid python-pygame
sudo apt-get -b source -t intrepid python-pygame
sudo pbuilder build pygame_1.8.1release-0ubuntu1.dsc

current Hardy version 1.7.1release-4.1ubuntu1
