[Bug 289249] [NEW] Alsa 1.0.17 Backport to Ubuntu 7.10

Public bug reported:

The latest stable version of Alsa fixes problems common in versions of
Alsa including the ability to automatically mute the speakers when a
headphone jack is plugged in.

I propose the new version of Alsa is backported to Ubuntu 7.10 as
upgrading to the latest version of ubuntu may cause problems for myself
and others.
