[Bug 303447] [NEW] Please backport libhdf5-1.8

Public bug reported:

hdf5-1.8.2 is the most current release. I would like to request its
inclusion in intrepid-backports and in Jaunty. Fedora 9 and gentoo
include hdf5-1.8, I have been using it on those platforms for some time.
When version 1.8 is installed, programs can still be compiled against
the 1.6 API so compatibility should not be a problem. Thanks!
