Yeah, that's the same situation I was in (mythbuntu
7.10 backend machine upgraded to .21, and Kubuntu 7.04
as the frontend machine).  I went ahead and compiled
Mythtv from source and made a deb package using
checkinstall (until we get the official backport.)  
If you want it, you can get it at
http://s91955837.onlinehome.us/wells-rice/www/linux/mythtv_0.21-1_i386.deb

It works for me, but your mileage may vary. It's a
32bit package, and xvmc support is enabled for Nvidia
cards only.
