The fact that 2.6.24 causes hard lockups (and consequent data loss) for
many users should be considered.

Also the fact that the bug is marked as fix-released
(https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/204996) for
intrepid (that uses kernels > 2.6.24) should be taken into account.

Please, rethink the "would not be helpful" part.
Since we have a high-priority bug that is marked as "fix-released", it would really be nice for the kernel team to _actually_ release the fix.
