jorno, it happens because of Adobe licensing restrictions and uploading
conventions.
Also, the design of the flashplugin-nonfree-installer is perhaps overtly
cautious; when it no longer gets the download it expected, it will
refuse to continue. If we could convince Adobe to not reuse the same
file name when uploading a new version, this approach would have more
merit (albeit result in an older version of the player being installed,
even if a newer version with security fixes were available).
However, this old, closed bug report is not the place to discuss such
things.
Note also that this bug is marked as a duplicate, but in any event, you
are commenting on the problem as it was in Feisty. If you are
installing on a fresh system, I would assume you are installing Gutsy.
For the record, the current open bug report for this issue in Gutsy
seems to be bug 173890; however, that bug should only be used to discuss
possible solutions at this point. It does contain some hints regarding
workarounds if you urgently need one.
