nvidia driver version 180.11 (beta) was released.

Release Highlights:

    * Added support for the following new GPUs:
          o GeForce 9400M
    * Fixed font corruption on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs when the GlyphCache setting is enabled.
    * Fixed a memory leak problem when the GlyphCache setting is enabled.
    * Added support for GVO full-range color.
    * Fixed a problem parsing the monitor sync range X config file options.
    * Improved VDPAU error detection and reporting.
    * Improved VDPAU support for some video bitstreams.

The 180.11 NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver Set for Linux/x86 is available for download via FTP.
The 180.11 NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver Set for Linux/x86-64 is available for download via FTP.

It seems to fix the font corruption issue I was mentioning earlier. Until we get the 180.11 driver in the repos (if we get it) there a couple of alternative fixes for the font corruption issue:
 1) set GlyphCache to 0: nvidia-settings -a GlyphCache=0
Some reports indicate that in some cases the InitialPixmapPlacement needs to be also set to 0 to get rid of the text corruption. YMMV
 2) disable sub-pixel hinting in the anti-aliasing settings.
