Backports only correspond to transfering a package from the dev
distribution to the stable. As the next release is not even announced,
this bug will need to be reopened if the package hits the repo one day.

Nevertheless, I think you should file a bug in KMess to ask the team
responsible of this package if a new release in Ubuntu is to come
anytime soon.
