prevu uses a much longer sources.list ($dist, -updates, -backports
-security, main restricted universe multiverse) compared to what a
developer would usually use for their personal pbuilders.... You can see
what sources.list lines prevu uses from /usr/bin/prevu-update (or
prevu-init); perhaps try doing a manual apt-get update using a similar
sources.list setup and see if that fails too?

I can't imagine anything in prevu that would cause such a thing to
happen.
