Gcompris is on 8.1 now, maybe it's possible to backport this version from Feisty to Dapper ?
If not, I think it would be wise to create unofficial backports project for Ubuntu, at least for various games, education software, etc., as such project often are older than 1 year in Ubuntu stable :(
