Is there a preliminary package somewhere, for testing? I have been using a more recent version of Smarty (the latest, I believe), installed from the upstream tarball, on Dapper for some time now. -- Some portions of Smarty are broken in PHP >= 5.1.2 https://launchpad.net/bugs/35385
