Bugzilla-Product: gnome-alsamixer
Bugzilla-Component: general
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.14.1)
Description:
Description of the crash:

I nstalled Gnome alsa mixer from Repositiry. Icon showed in
Applications/ Sound&Video. When I click on icon, window opens which is
empty. Then read the steps below:

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1. I click on icon Gnome alsa mixer in Applications --> Sound&Video
2. Empty window opens. I click on File -- > Preferences and Error note
pops up "system unexpectedly quit. Please inform developers.
3.

Expected Results:
Alsa mixer would start running.

How often does this happen?
I reinstaled alsa mixer from repository few times and followed the same
procedure as deascribed above with the same crach result. Rebooting
doesn't change it.

Additional Information:
I wanted to install alsa mixer because sound suddenly stopped working,
MUTE by default when I log on.
Perhaps it could be connected??

ADDITIONALLY:
When I type "alsamixer" in the terminal I get this:

matjaz at cpc5-cbly1-0-0-cust771Matjaz:~$ alsamixer
ALSA lib conf.c:1592:(snd_config_load1) _toplevel_:29:1:Unexpected char
ALSA lib conf.c:2837:(snd_config_hook_load) /etc/asound.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it
ALSA lib conf.c:2700:(snd_config_hooks_call) function snd_config_hook_load returned error: Invalid argument
ALSA lib conf.c:3066:(snd_config_update_r) hooks failed, removing configuration

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: Invalid argument
matjaz at cpc5-cbly1-0-0-cust771Matjaz:~$

Sounds like something corrupted.

I totally removed alsa mixer from synaptic manager and installed it
again. The problem remains.

My main problem is getting sound to work which is MUTE by default when I
turn on the computer, but I even can't get alsamixer to work to unmute
the PCM etc.

Thanks for help.

Please get back to me should you need more info.

Matjaz
