svk backport

Upon second thoughts, perhaps it's best to leave this as an unofficial 
backport and have users decide for themselves if they want it.

Which brings up another topic. Perhaps we need a 'Ubuntu Community 
Repository', an unsupported collection of packages community members 
contribute... :)
