<pre wrap="">Canon are notorious for not supporting free software and/or Linux.
Avoid them if you are buying with intent to print under Linux.
On the flipside, HP are fantastic with Linux/CUPS support. They have
released drivers for all of their printers under free software licenses,
and they are packaged and ready to go under Ubuntu.

Support covers their entire range of Inkjet as well as Laserjet
printers. I support a number of businesses both small and large and
typically install CUPS print servers for large scale printing. When I
do, I always recommend HP printers to go with.

I can concur that HP laser printers are almost foolproof! I have 100+
Kubuntu PC's & Ubuntu servers & have Samsung, panasonic &
HP printers & I have no problems with the HP's but the others give
me grief! 1 word of caution there are some HP printers that are only
Windows only like the laserjet 1000 has no brains like the win-modem
& should be given a big miss!
