Accessing shared windows directories

If you are using Unity then you can access Nautilus (the same File
Manager you will be used to) from the launcher bar on the left hand
side.  Pressing and holding the Super (Windows) button on your keyboard
is one way of invoking the Launcher if you can't see it but I think it
might autohide by default so moving the mouse to the left edge of the
screen should make it appear also.  On the Launcher bar there is a
shortcut to your home folder and clicking on it will start Nautilus. 
>From there it is all pretty much the same as you would be used to.
