Ah bingo, works like a charm. I'll wait for some updates to hit the
repo to double check it actually does work but I've disabled
everything but the USB drive and it doesn't throw any errors so that's
a good start.

Ah, testing might be the easy bit.  Just install a new package ;-)

If you don't already use it, try installing Gkrellm.  It's a little system monitor that I always use because it's light and gets the job done, and is very configurable.  It should also install two dependancies for you if you don't already have them on the system.
