filenames (of folder contents) to text

Hi folks,

I’d be grateful to know how I can get the filenames of files (or
selected files) within a folder [but not subfolders] into a text file,
whether via the clipboard and Paste, or whatever.

Ages ago in Windows I had a little program that added an option of this
kind to the right-click menu. Is there a similar program in Ubuntu, with
a GUI?

In the Ubuntu forums I found this
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1363994&highlight=filenames+to+text+file
but I have not been game to touch the Terminal before.
And does that example path mean that doclist.txt is created by Ubuntu,
or would you create the file with that name in advance? Can anyone
suggest other ways of doing it?

Thank you,

Dave
