Screen Saver doesn't work after re-boot

I am using Lucid Lynx on a desktop PC.

I have carefully gone through "Systems>Preferences>Screensaver" and also
"Power Management" to set my PC to scroll through my picture folder
after 20 minutes idle time.  It works beautifully . . . 

However, after a new Boot, and after idle time, the screensaver doesn't
work. I am presented with a black screen.  I re-check the above settings
and it is still as I originally set it.

Seems a new boot overrides my settings??
