Governance Structure Proposal for Ubuntu-AU

Hi.

I'm only new here but have been reading with interest the happenings
of the last few days. Here is what this situation looks like to a
newcomer. With all due respect the Australian Loco has let things
slide and is now scrambling to stay afloat. From my readings if it
wasn't for Mellisa the Loco would have dissolved ages ago. I don't
think scrambling to change Governance structures and election
processes is going to help the Ubuntu-AU loco while there is a culture
of "it'll-be-right-mate". It isn't processes that need changing it is
attitudes. If the overall attitude changes then the process will clean
up as people become involved in the loco.

As far as time zones go Australia has at least 5 official zones in
Summer there are also unofficial zones in a few states that locals
adhere to. So if your planning on setting up meetings you really need
to have some idea of what time it will be where the people are located
so everyone can actually be on time in their time zone.

Scott wrote "So what is it we want to achieve? who are we and what do
we stand for?
What is the future of the Australian ubuntu-au Loco team?". Being a
newbie I took a look at th Ubuntu-AU site and believe it or not these
questions, except the last one, are actually answered there. So does
Ubuntu-Au need to rethink its plan? Does Ubuntu-AU need to cut back on
what it hope to work on? Is it effective to have grand plans only to
realise a few years down the track that non, if any, have been
achieved?

Now having said all that, I would like to take part. I am a school
teacher and a motor mechanic and can see a great future for Ubuntu in
mainstream academia and the automotive industry IF people actually
find out about it and programmers can be encouraged to write programs
for Ubuntu in various industries.

Just my thoughts at this time.
Hope it helps.
