Hi Norm.
Yes, this was a known bug & has since been resolved by removing the
offending patch. See the below links for more details.
The initial bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/565981
The wiki page acknowledging the issue, proposing a potential solution to
the problem & asking for testing (please note however that no further
testing is necessary as this issue has now been resolved)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Testing/GEMLeak
The changelog for the updated package that removed the patches causing
this problem.
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/x/xorg-server/xorg-server_1.7.6-2ubuntu7/changelog
The section of the changelog regarding this issue is:
* Drop 114_dri2_make_sure_x_drawable_exists.patch
- This was an early attempt by upstream which fixed the aforementioned
Clutter crash, but which introduced a memory leak.
(Fixes #565981)
I see that article mentions the bug report & the wiki page.
Unfortunately it fails to mention that the issue has been resolved (it
appears that it was fixed before the article was actually published).
Basically, as long as you have "xorg-server_1.7.6-2ubuntu7" installed
you will not be affected by this bug. I hope this helps to clear up the
issue :)
Kind Regards,
