Installing Picasa 3 on Karmic Koala

Hello everyone
I am a complete newby here and have already encountered a problem with
Karmic Koala.
I downloaded Picasa 3 but it won't install using the Package
Installer.  In Terminal I get this message :
dpkg: unable to read filedescriptor flag for <package status and
progress file descriptor>: Bad file descriptor

Can any guide me ?  In simple language please ?
