Wireless Modem Problems

Hi the List,

The story is; I have a USB wireless modem (actually from Optus) that only works on Windows XP Home.
In Ubuntu 8.10 (also installed) info from Help states that there is a means of reading the *.inf file supplied with the modem that requires ndisgtk as an add-on to ndiswrapper.
OK. That means that I need to note the required file; close Ubuntu; re-start and open XP to get at the internet.
    Did that.
Googled ndisgtk - downloaded and saved to a folder - so far so good.
In XP - copy the file - paste to memory stick. Check? - it's there. Close XP.
Re-open to Ubuntu (memory stick recognised). Right click the ndisgtk file - GDebi Package Installer tops the list - click on that and it opens - showing a fault! (Quite a few "sweet" words - ya know? !)
Actually reads "Package: ndisgtk. Status: Error: Dependancy is not satisfiable: ndiswrapper-utils-1.9".

Can anyone put a finger on a problem with anything there? Or suggest another means of getting the modem to work on Ubuntu?

    Hopefully

    Mike H
