Open assets etc. in new 'Desk'

Your Window Manager may be able to take care of placing windows of a 
particular type on a particular workspace.

Since you use nautilus you are probably using Gnome.

If you have Visual Effects set to None, you will need to use devilspie. 
Otherwise the Compiz Settings Manager and Place Windows. Neither are 
real user friendly.
