But I never get an ip address or ppp device show up in ifconfig. Normally I
should see an ip address assigned to me just after the last Connect line.

Hey David, I&#39;m trying to connect my laptop to bigpond with a wm5 jasjam too. Albeit unsuccessfully.<br>Are you using dialup scripts in /etc/ppp/peers?<br>If so could I trouble you to see where mine differ?<br><br>From the command line I get:
