Samba issue

I have this strange problem where Samba just decides to stop sharing my
files every now and then, for no particular reason.
I have a bunch of files on a separate drive shared for the network and no
matter what I do its just pop-luck when it pops up and starts working again
(in other words, sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart does nothing.)
this is my smb.conf
# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1)
# Date: 2007/09/29 20:14:16
