Linux in schools?

Hi all. Does anyone have any information (or contacts) about pursuing
the opportunities for greater Linux penetration in schools through the
new Government's education policy roll-out?
I am afraid that the speed of implementation will leave the FOSS forces
flat-footed and that all that money will simply be soaked up by poor
quality proprietary boxes being dumped on schools and being charged to
Government at full price. I notice that shares in companies like Harvey
Norman have jumped as a result of the Labor win.
Just think how many more machines (and the greater opportunity for
really valuable education opportunities) would be generated by deploying
even those (US) Everex $200 machines running Ubuntu. The money saved
could be put into genuine IT education.
