Shutting down a Ubuntu server remotely from Windows?

If the case is ATX soft power and the mobo supports ACPI properly you
should be able to just hit the power button on the case and the system
will perform a proper shutdown.
If it's a really old system though this may not work properly if at all.

Another option would be to install and strip down webmin or some other
web admin tool where he could goto a page on the server and then hit
shutdown.
