printers

The OpenPrinting website has a database with quite a few printers in it,
and will give you a good idea of what is supported, and how well:

http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi

There's also the "recommended printers" list:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/Database/SuggestedPrinters

Generally speaking, any printer with native, non-emulated PostScript
support will work 100% with the generic CUPS PostScript driver. These
days PCL printers seem to be all the rage, but there are companies who
have stuck with their guns and continue to deliver solid PS support
(HP's entire LaserJet range again gets my recommendation here).
