- Ubuntu has been mentioned by various members of parliament, in and
out of parliament.

I feel that the effect would be completely different to what people
expect. Ubuntu will continue, Linux will continue.
Canonical can't and won't just disappear (drop off the face of the
earth). Think of the worst possible scenario, which might be similar
to the SCO vs IBM lawsuit, but multiplied a thousand times, where
lawsuits are brought to bear against Ubuntu, Canonical or Debian.
Ubuntu is loved and has many friends, and any action would involve a
huge crossection of an international community.
Mark Shuttleworth (aka. sabdfl[1]) and others has created a large
friendly beast, and more importantly to foster the community and
created the infrastructure to help it grow, and allow people to do
whatever they want with it, including make a living using and
supporting it.
I am confident that Canonical will always do what is best for Ubuntu.
If it proves impossible for Canonical to continue for whatever reason,
then the baton will pass to someone else and life will go on.
Cheers,
