Hi James

The search and network icons both appear in the notification area - you
have to unlock the notification area and move that as well as everything
else that needs to be relocated.

Can you see the three dots to the left of the 'S' icon in the picture?
That is where you click to unlock the notification area. It may look
different depending on your Gnome theme, on mine it is two columns of
about 6 dots.
