enabling cube effect

I had that problem when I tried compiz. It's a known bug (#121986). To get 
things working properly ou need to reset a particular setting in gconf-editor 
(which is sort of similar to Windows registry). Details are here -

Another fix, in case your window borders go haywire, is to run this in a 
terminal -

compiz --replace -c emerald &

which basically resets the window manager.

All this, plus the fact that video playback using xxmc video output is *very* 
iffy when compiz/beryl are running, made 'Desktop Effects' a non-starter for 
me. :( Maybe next release.

(Although I still enable the Xfce4 compositor when I use that as my window 
manager, even though the video issue is still there.)
