au.archive.ubuntu.com slow as .... ?

Am i the only person seeing insanely slow updates from the au. mirror ?

Looks like this:

Get:2 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com dapper Release.gpg [189B]
Get:3 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com dapper-updates Release.gpg [191B]
99% [Waiting for headers]

It takes * 8 minutes * just to refresh the list...

I thought I had a config problem ( dapper) -  but if I change to 

http://mirror.pacific.net.au

Suddenly the problem evaporates... and the update takes * 8 seconds *
( bit of a difference there )

Is it me,  or is there something deeply wrong with Optus ? ( au.archive
points at mirror.optus.net currently)
