Firefox and Timidity

Thank you for the explanations, David.
I downloaded Mozplugger and it does allow me to turn the music off.
Unfortunately it curtails my choices to either listening to the midi file or
else looking at the web page but not both.
Firefox can and does play midi files but it does so without any means to
turn them off and they have to suffered to the bitter end.
