Purpose of beryl is to look fancy. (period) 
The purpose of VM-ware is to run more than one OS at any time.  so in
ubuntu you can use VM-ware to run windows or in windows you can run
ubuntu. but because it's a OS inside of an OS. your system needs to be
fairly fast and with lots of ram to support both OS, running at the same
time. (vm = virtual machine, so your making a virtual computer inside of
ubuntu which another OS runs on)
