Sorry to be picky, but do you think LinuxFormat /doesn't/ have a lot of 
potential? xP

Nah, honestly, I think it's a great idea, but I'd make sure that you get 
editors, you get people who are professional (or just experienced) in the 
industry of producing magazines, and that you do as Senectus says and you 
take a close look at the existing community to see how you can fit it in.
