I did precisely what you told me to do and guess what... it WORKS!

Ubuntu is great!

.... having said that.
I have more questions.
1. What is this story about the "root"?
Who is the "root"?
I don't remember installing any "root" during the installation process.
I guess that the "sudo" must change temporary the user to the "root".
I just couldn't figure-out what was the password of that "root" guy.
I got a bit angry and just pressed enter and guess what..., the password
was blank.
2. How can I get the usage meter from Bigpond?
I have read somewhere that it would be possible to get XML data with
usage from Bigpond.
I have called Bigpond technical support.
The girl on the other side didn't understand what I was talking about.
So, is it possible to get the XML data about my usage from Bigpond?
