Official Australian Ubuntu "apt" Mirror ?

I noticed some time ago that the au.archive.ubuntu.com mirror has reverted
to pointing at  archive.ubuntu.com .

$ host au.archive.ubuntu.com
au.archive.ubuntu.com has address 195.248.90.38
au.archive.ubuntu.com has address 195.248.90.35

$ host archive.ubuntu.com
archive.ubuntu.com has address 195.248.90.35
archive.ubuntu.com has address 195.248.90.38

It used to point at http://mirrors.uwa.edu.au/ubuntu/  , which is still
there, and still working (and giving much faster results than the UK one,
obviously ).

Does anyone know why this has reverted? Is UWA unable to handle the
bandwidth?

There are of course other .au mirrors ( I currently use the Optus one,
with mirror.pacific.net.au as a second string in
my /etc/apt/sources.list )  - but it seems odd that the "official" mirror
has reverted to the main one, which IIRC was the case in the warty/hoary
era, but had been fixed long since :-)
