deleting emails in evolution

I used to hit the delete emails in evolution, then go to my trash in
evolution and expunge them.  notice that lately these emails don't seem to
land in my trash can, they just disappear....  is this some wierd fuzzy
logic at play or does the problem exist between the moitor and the chair?
(again)

check out the epiphany browser, seems much faster on my older mac than
firefox...
