I tried adding perspective transformation in GIMP, but with perspective it looks too complex to be easily recognized IMO. I hope this logo gets accepted in which ever form the final is. I havent had time to do more of these but will try again this evening.. I think you have covered most of the options but cant hurt to try again :) coz
