Video editing is a very broad topic, ranging from adjusting the
brightness, to... well, everything that Pixar does for Disney movies
:)
A good free software video editor is PiTiVi, and you can read
documentation about it here: http://www.pitivi.org/
PiTiVi is available in the main Ubuntu repos. It has improved
dramatically in recent months / years, so I would suggest using Ubuntu
10.10 or 11.04 Alpha to get a recent version of PiTiVi.
